Besides the state boundaries, the topography and landscape consist of deserts which are a surprising color of rose, broken mesas as well as towering peaks draped in snow and green forests which add to the mysterious wilderness of the state. The rugged yet majestic look is rendered to New Mexico by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains which lies on the eastern part of the city of Rio Grande and the arid appearance is accentuated by the vegetation that grow on the desert areas and semiarid plains such as cacti, creosote bush, desert grasses, yuccas and more.
