Demography of New Mexico

The demography of New Mexico is one of the most unique in the whole of the United States, as its population consists primarily of the groups whose ancestors were either native to the place or emigrated from other parts of the world. This diversity contributed to the amazing cultural confluence that the state represents. The most astonishing fact about the demography of New Mexico is that although the largest population of Native Americans belong to Alaska and Oklahoma states of the US, New Mexico ranks only third in being home to the large tribes of these natives who have been inhabiting this region for thousands of years.

These Native Americans mostly occupy the northwestern part of the state and consists primarily of the tribes with the names of Navajos and Pueblos.

Apart from the Native Americans, the second largest part of the population belong to the Hispanic groups which rank as the largest density of Hispanics in any of the states of the US. These groups came down through Hispanic ancestry as well as immigrants and descendents of the Spanish Colonists.



The other groups which form part of the demography of New Mexico include the Americans and Mexicans who mainly reside in the southern regions of the state as well as the mixed-race group. Besides, the population consists of mostly whites, followed by blacks, AIAN, Asian and NHPI and out of these, maximum numbers follow Roman Catholicism and the rest are Protestants, Baptists, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, LSD and a few others. Upon survey it has been deciphered that there are quite a few ancestry groups that form the part of the population which include Mexican, Native American, German, Hispanic, Spanish, English and Irish.
