New Mexico is a US state which is positioned in the southwestern part of the United States. New Mexico has also been earlier under the occupation of the Native American people and has been a part of the Spanish viceroyalty of the territory of New Spain. The US state of New Mexico is comprised of 39 counties. The number of Counties in New Mexico was originally 9 which were formed in the year 1852. Santa Ana County, which was one of the original Counties in New Mexico, was added on to the Bernalillo County of New Mexico in the year 1876.

The county seat of Bernalillo County is Albuquerque. Catron County is the biggest county of New Mexico with its county seat being the village of Reserve. Roswell is the county seat of Chaves County, the name of the county being taken from Jose Francisco Chaves. The county seat of Cibola County is the city of Grants which is also popularly known as the “the friendly outhouse”. Colfax County is home of popular Philmont Scout Ranch with its county seat as Raton. The county seat of Dona Ana County of New Mexico is Las Cruces, the second-biggest city of the state. The county seat of Grant County is Silver City, the adjacent counties to it being Sierra County, Catron County, Hidalgo County and Luna County.
Lincoln County has Carrizozo as its seat which is located in the well-known Tularosa Basin. Quay County, which has the city of Tucumcari as its seat, was named after Matthew Quay, former senator of Pennsylvania. San Miguel County, Harding County, Deaf Smith County, De Baca County and Roosevelt County are some of the counties located close to the Quay County. The San Juan County is a portion of the Metropolitan Statistical Area of the city of Farmington.
